What a long, strange (technology) trip it’s been!

As a newly minted Social Studies teacher in 1986, I began my career teaching 7th Grade World History in a small rural Minnesota public school. My classroom was typical for the time: A 1946 building with marginal classroom climate controls which consisted of rows of laminated pressed wood topped desks facing a chalk board. Yes chalk (remember, kids???) My standard metal teacher desk was in the corner beneath the flowing red, white and blue of the American Flag. My technology resources included a projector screen, shared overhead, Dukane filmstrip, opaque and 16 millimeter video projectors, a sometimes operational toggle switch to call the office in the event of a random classroom disturbance or other emergency, and a purple-ink mimeograph for duplicating worksheets – if we had enough ink and paper in the office. There might have even been some 20 year-old pull down maps and an even older globe strategically positioned for quick reference. I’ve included links in case you were wondering what these were.
